Go in daylight on the day before the game. Cistern tours run Wednesday to Sunday, and reservations are recommended.

The park and trails are free. Cistern tours are ticketed; Allen Parkway parking is $1 for three hours.

Follow the park’s trails west along the bayou from The Water Works to Lost Lake, where there are restrooms and FLORA, a Mexican Kitchen. It’s a way to get your bearings, not turn-by-turn directions.

The Bayou Boutique at The Water Works sells snacks and drinks. A Cistern tour means walking a quarter-mile in 25 minutes. On October 3, the day before the Cowboys game, a race closes roads along Allen Parkway and the Cistern is walk-up only until noon. Check the park’s page for trail closures before you go.

Getting there: Book a rideshare to Yellow Lot 35, entering at Gate 16B off Main Street, and head for the large white tent.
Getting back: Walk back to the rideshare tent in Yellow Lot 35. From the Kroger Gate, cross Kirby onto McNee and follow the path to the gate just past Lantern Point Road.

Every rideshare and taxi uses the same lot, so expect a wait after the game. Postgame traffic is heavier after night games.

Getting there: Buy a mobile parking pass before game day, then drive to your lot. Green, Yellow and Purple lots are reached from Main Street, Blue and Red from Kirby Drive, and Maroon and Orange from the Fannin Street exit. Lots open four hours before kickoff (Platinum five).
Getting back: Police and parking staff direct cars out of the lots by traffic flow, so you may not leave the way you came. The Texans aim to clear the lots 50–60 minutes after the game.

Every lot needs a pre-purchased pass; only limited cashless parking may be sold on site. No overnight parking. Postgame tailgating ends an hour after the game.

Getting there: Drive to METRO’s Fannin South Park & Ride, 1604 West Bellfort Avenue. On Texans game days parking there costs $25–50, card only, and everyone in the car gets a round-trip wristband for the Red Line. It’s one stop to Stadium Park / Astrodome.
Getting back: Ride the Red Line one stop back to Fannin South and drive north to the airport.

During the season, everyone over the age of two needs a game ticket or a Tailgate Ticket to be anywhere on Reliant Park property, parking lots included.

Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags up to 12 × 6 × 12 inches, a one-gallon clear freezer bag, or a small clutch about 4.5 × 6.5 inches. Diaper bags and camera cases larger than a clutch must be clear. Backpacks and coolers aren’t allowed. Medically necessary items are inspected at a designated gate.

Tickets, gates and re-entry — Texans

Tickets and parking passes are mobile only. Children two and older need a ticket. Main gates open 90 minutes before kickoff and club and suite entrances two hours before; the Texans’ Know Before You Go page says two hours for gates generally. There’s no re-entry once your ticket is scanned.

Parking and tailgating

Every lot needs a pre-purchased mobile parking pass. Lots open four hours before kickoff (Platinum five), and each pass covers one 8 × 16-foot space, including your tailgate setup. Open flames are allowed, but liquid charcoal starter isn’t, and each cooking area needs a fire extinguisher. Speakers are limited to 68 decibels. Tailgating may continue for one hour after the game, then the lots close.

The Red Line stops at Stadium Park / Astrodome, beside Reliant Park, and METRO runs special-event service during Texans home games. The fare is $1.25. At Fannin South Park & Ride, one stop south, game-day parking costs $25–50 (card only) and includes round-trip rail wristbands.

Is it NRG Stadium or Reliant Stadium?

Reliant Stadium. The Texans say the venue was named NRG Stadium from 2014 until August 2026, when it went back to its original name for the team’s 25th season. The address is still 1 NRG Parkway, and some hotel sites, maps and older team pages still use the old name.

Can I take the train to a Texans game?

Yes. The METRORail Red Line runs from downtown, Midtown and the Museum District to Stadium Park / Astrodome station at Reliant Park, and METRO runs more frequent special-event trains during Texans home games. The fare is $1.25.

Can I tailgate without a game ticket?

Only with a Tailgate Ticket. Everyone over two needs a game ticket or a Tailgate Ticket to be on the property, and every car needs a pre-purchased parking pass.

Where do I get a rideshare after the game?

In Yellow Lot 35, at the large white tent, entered from Gate 16B off Main Street. The Texans’ rideshare page gives walking directions from each gate.
