Getting back: Board #146 on the west side of the Transportation Center (East Museum Lot) at McFetridge and Special Olympics Drive, just northeast of the stadium.

The last northbound #146 leaves Museum Campus/Adler Planetarium at 11:35 p.m. on weekdays and Sundays and 11:40 p.m. on Saturdays. After a night game, allow for that or use the 24-hour Red Line from Roosevelt.

Getting back: Walk north to Balbo and Columbus Drives for postgame pickup.

Taxis, limousines and buses can’t enter the Soldier Field campus from 90 minutes after kickoff until an hour after the game. Soldier Field advises against using map apps on the approach because of event road closures.

Getting there: Ride the CTA Blue Line downtown from O’Hare, change to the Red Line and ride to Roosevelt, then walk 3/4 mile east through Museum Campus. Use the CTA trip planner for the change.
Getting back: Walk back to Roosevelt and reverse the trip. Both the Blue Line and the Red Line run 24 hours.

It’s a long ride with a change each way. The CTA notes a modified O’Hare-branch schedule during non-rush hours and weekends because of construction. The hotels’ airport shuttles aren’t game shuttles.

Clear bags up to 12 × 6 × 12 inches, a one-gallon clear freezer bag, or a small non-clear bag up to 4.5 × 6.5 inches. Diaper bags and coolers aren’t allowed unless medically necessary; carry diapers in a clear bag. Blankets are allowed. Lockers for prohibited items cost $10 (card only) at the Ultimate Tailgate and the 18th Street turnaround.

Everyone enters on a mobile ticket in the Bears app; screenshots aren’t valid. Forward each guest their own ticket in advance. Children under 32 inches tall can enter free with a lap pass from the Gate 8 Ticket Office, one per ticket, and must sit on a ticketed lap.

Parking needs a prepaid pass

Lots right around the stadium need a prepaid pass and open four hours before kickoff. Lots close three hours after day games and immediately after night games. Without a stadium pass, the Bears point to the Millennium Garages or McCormick Place Lot B, both with free shuttles. Parking is prohibited in the residential streets between Roosevelt and Cermak, and between Lake Shore Drive and Clark Street.

Tailgating rules

Tailgating is allowed on Museum Campus surface lots, the upper Waldron Deck and McCormick Place Lots B, D and E, within your one space. It’s banned during games and after night games, and after any game in the McCormick Place lots. No open fires, fryers or propane tanks over 19 lb. Family Friendly lots are alcohol-free.

CTA #128 from Union Station and Ogilvie

The #128 Soldier Field Express runs nonstop from Ogilvie (board south on Clinton at Madison) and Union Station (board east on Jackson at Canal) from about 2.5 hours before kickoff until 30 minutes after. It’s a $5 round trip, cash or Ventra card. After the game it runs for about an hour.

Metra Electric to 18th Street

Soldier Field calls Metra’s 18th Street station its stop, a short walk from the stadium. The Bears say South Shore Line trains on the Metra Electric Line stop there too: get off at the McCormick Place stop at 18th Street and walk one block north. Check Metra for train times.

All gates are ADA accessible. With a placard, you can be dropped at Gate 14; guests exchanging for a wheelchair-accessible seat enter at Gate 8. The free Millennium Garages and McCormick Place Lot B shuttles have ADA service to Gate 14. The CTA lists Roosevelt station as accessible.

Useful things to know

Can I get to Soldier Field without a car?

Yes. Walk from the South Loop, take the free shuttle from the Millennium Garages, ride CTA #146 or the #128 express, take the Red, Orange or Green Line to Roosevelt, or Metra Electric to 18th Street.

Can I just drive up and park?

Not beside the stadium. Those lots need a prepaid pass. Single-game passes for some lots are sold in advance, and the Bears point fans without a pass to the Millennium Garages or McCormick Place Lot B, both with free shuttles.

Does a small child need a ticket?

Children under 32 inches tall can enter without a ticket if you collect a free lap pass at the Gate 8 Ticket Office on game day. The child must be there, it’s one pass per ticket, and the child sits on your lap.

Is there a tailgate if I don’t have a car?

Yes. The Miller Lite Chicago Bears Ultimate Tailgate on the Field Museum Terrace is free and open to the public, from two hours before kickoff to one hour after the game.
