Santa Clara / by the stadiumThe shortest trip to the game

Stay in the hotels on Great America Parkway and walk to the game. The Hilton Santa Clara is across the street from the stadium.

To the stadium: Walk from your hotel to the stadium gates; the Hilton puts them five minutes away.
After the game: Walk back with the crowd. There’s no train or rideshare queue to wait in.
The tradeoff: It’s a business district next to a theme park and a convention center, with little to walk to at night beyond the hotels’ own restaurants. San Francisco is a long train ride away.

Downtown San JoseBars, food and a light rail ride to the game

Stay in downtown San Jose, near San Pedro Square’s food hall and bars, and ride VTA light rail north to the stadium.

To the stadium: Walk to a downtown light rail station and ride the Green Line toward Levi’s Stadium. VTA’s game schedule shows about 30 minutes from Santa Clara station.
After the game: VTA runs extra light rail and bus service for up to an hour after the game. Head straight to the Gate A queue lines on Tasman Drive.
The tradeoff: The light rail ride to the stadium takes about half an hour each way, and postgame trains are crowded. Some downtown restaurants, Scott’s Seafood among them, close on Sundays.

San Francisco (South Beach / Embarcadero)A San Francisco weekend with the game as a day trip

Stay near Oracle Park and the 4th & King Caltrain station, ride Caltrain down the Peninsula and change to VTA light rail at Mountain View.

To the stadium: Ride Caltrain south to Mountain View, walk to the VTA platform and board the Orange Line toward Alum Rock to the Levi’s (Great America) stop.
After the game: Take the Orange Line back to Mountain View. The last northbound Caltrain local leaves Mountain View at 11:49 p.m. on weekends (11:48 p.m. on weekdays) and reaches San Francisco about an hour later.
The tradeoff: It’s the longest trip to the stadium: Caltrain to Mountain View takes about an hour, then light rail. San Francisco hotels charge high overnight valet rates.

North San Jose / SJC airportEarly flights and a lower-cost base

Stay in the budget hotels near San Jose Mineta International Airport, between downtown San Jose and the stadium.

To the stadium: Book a rideshare to the stadium drop-off by the bus stop south of Great America Parkway, or drive and park.
After the game: Walk to Red Lot 7 for a rideshare pickup, or back to your car; stadium lots close two hours after the game.
The tradeoff: It’s a hotel strip along highways, not a neighborhood to spend an evening in. Neither hotel publishes a shuttle to the stadium.

Walk from Great America ParkwaySanta Clara / by the stadiumwalk

Getting there: From the Hilton Santa Clara, cross the street to the stadium gates, about a five-minute walk by the hotel’s count. From the Avatar Hotel it’s 0.6 miles.
Getting back: Walk back the same way. Stadium lots and streets around them are busy for a while after the game.

Gates open at different times for each event, and there’s no re-entry. Signs and banners aren’t allowed at NFL games, and bags must follow the clear bag policy.

VTA Green Line from downtownDowntown San Josetransit

Getting there: Board the Green Line at a downtown First Street station (Santa Clara or Convention Center) and ride to the Levi’s stop, the Great America station on the stadium’s north side. VTA’s posted game schedule shows about 30 minutes from Santa Clara station.
Getting back: Light rail riders queue on the Gate A side of the stadium, facing Tasman Drive. VTA runs extra light rail and bus service for up to an hour after the game.

Blue Line trips from the south need a transfer. VTA posts each game’s schedule, generally at least three days before. A single ride is $2.50 and an 8-hour light rail pass $5 (adult cash fares).

Getting there: Ride Caltrain from San Francisco (4th & King) to Mountain View, about an hour on a weekend local. Walk west to the VTA platform and take the Orange Line toward Alum Rock to the Great America (Levi’s) stop; Caltrain counts 12 stops.
Getting back: Queue for light rail on the Gate A side facing Tasman Drive and ride back to Mountain View. The last northbound Caltrain local leaves Mountain View at 11:49 p.m. on weekends and 11:48 p.m. on weekdays.

Caltrain runs its regular schedule, with no game-day express listed on the pages read. Buy the joint Caltrain + VTA Day Pass (VTA says it costs $7.50 more than a Caltrain Day Pass) or tap Clipper; don’t buy the joint pass at Mountain View. BART riders can change to the Orange Line at Milpitas instead.

Getting there: Set your drop-off for Levi’s Stadium. Rideshare drop-off is along the bus stop south of Great America Parkway.
Getting back: Walk to Red Lot 7 for rideshare pickup.

No fares or travel times are published. Expect a queue and surge pricing at Red Lot 7 right after the game. Accessible pick-up and drop-off are also at Red Lot 7.

Getting there: Buy a stadium parking pass in advance. Lots open 3.5 hours before kickoff, parking is directed, and all lots are cashless.
Getting back: Lots close two hours after the game. Directed parking fills the farthest spaces first, so leaving can take time.

The stadium’s parking FAQ, which isn’t dated and still mentions the 2024 season in another answer, says Red, Blue and Green Lot 1 are sold out “this season” and that single-game passes can become available; it points to private lots nearby. Check the 49ers app or the stadium’s parking page for your game. Tailgating stays in your own space and ends at kickoff; no glass and no amplified sound.
